The short answer: Log into your Yoga Alliance account, go to your member dashboard, and enter your continuing education hours under the “Continuing Education” section. You need 45 hours every 3 years to maintain your RYT status — 30 teaching hours and 15 training hours.
It’s simpler than it sounds. Here’s the step-by-step.
CE Requirements at a Glance
- Total required: 45 hours every 3 years
- Teaching hours: 30 hours minimum (actual yoga classes you’ve taught)
- Training hours: 15 hours minimum (workshops, courses, trainings you’ve attended)
- Of the 15 training hours: at least 10 must be “contact” hours (live or interactive)
How to Log Your Hours (Step by Step)
- Log in to your Yoga Alliance account at yogaalliance.org
- Navigate to your member dashboard
- Click on “Continuing Education” or “Log Hours”

What Counts as Continuing Education?
Teaching hours (30 required):
- Group yoga classes you’ve led
- Private sessions
- Workshops you’ve taught
- Online classes (live or pre-recorded if students interact)
Training hours (15 required):
- Workshops and conferences attended
- Advanced yoga teacher training (like a 300-hour program)
- Specialty certifications (somatic yoga, Kundalini, prenatal)
- Online courses from YACEP providers
- The Uplifted Membership includes Yoga Alliance CE credits
Do I Need to Submit Proof?
Yoga Alliance operates on an honor system. You self-report your hours — they don’t require certificates, receipts, or documentation when you log them. However, it’s smart to keep your own records in case you’re ever asked to verify.
What Happens If I Don’t Complete My Hours?
If you don’t log 45 hours by your 3-year renewal date, your RYT status may lapse. You can typically reinstate by completing the remaining hours and paying any late fees. But it’s much easier to stay current — especially since many of the things you’re already doing (teaching classes, attending workshops) count.
If you’re teaching regularly and occasionally taking a workshop or course, you’re probably already meeting the requirements without realizing it. 🙏
