[Brett Larkin]
Welcome to the Uplifted Yoga Podcast, where ancient yogic wisdom meets modern business strategy. I’m Brett Larkin, creator of Uplifted Yoga, where I’ve certified thousands of yoga teachers, built a multi-seven figure business, and guided over half a million students on YouTube. Here’s the truth.
You don’t have to choose between embodying deep yogic wisdom and building a thriving, freedom-based business. This podcast is your space to integrate both, because yoga isn’t just what you do on the mat. It’s how you show up in every part of your life.
Whether you’re here to deepen your yoga practice, grow your teaching career, or align your energy with your purpose, you’re in the right place. Let’s dive in. You know that on this podcast, we usually go deep.
Like we’re reading the yoga sutras, decoding the Bhagavad Gita, comparing translations, unpacking ancient Vedic philosophy, and of course, figuring out how to integrate all of that into modern spiritual leadership and running a heart-led business. However, we’re not doing any of that today. We are keeping it so light, so fluffy.
Today is your cozy, super fun, hangout, giggle-with-us-in-your-pajamas episode. I am joined by Uplifted alumni Corinne, and we are talking about all of our favorite yoga wellness self-care products, with the added bonus that they might give you some really great gift ideas for the holiday season, whether you’re shopping for someone else or building your own wishlist. This episode is light, fun, playful, silly, full of practical recommendations.
Ever the digital marketer that I am, I also have a couple really fun Black Friday offers up my sleeve for all of you as well. If you’ve been considering the Uplifted membership or maybe a certain training or a course, I want to make sure that you open your emails from me. Know that I’ve put together some really fun, irresistible offers for you.
And of course, we all know that true fulfillment comes from within, but it is still really fun to just get silly and nerd out about our favorite products, stuff, and things that we might want to gift or buy for ourselves. Let’s drop in to this week’s episode. Hello, yoga family.
Welcome back to the show. I am here with Corinne. I’m so happy to see you.
What Uplifted trainings have you not taken? I don’t know. Maybe let’s start there.
Tell us, everyone, a little bit about who you are, what you’ve taken, how you got into the Uplifted world.
[Corrine Maples]
Yeah. I think I’ve pretty much taken every Uplifted training, so you’re right. I think it’s easier to say what I haven’t done.
I think the only thing I haven’t done is the Kundalini training, but I’ve taken so many Kundalini classes from you that I feel like I’ve taken the training. Yeah, so I started out with the YTT 200-hour. That was back in 2021.
My business had just sold to a large publicly traded company, and silly me, I was under the impression that I was going to have more time, and so I was like, this is the perfect time. I’ve always wanted to do this. Let me do 200-hour.
My life was very busy, but I absolutely fell in love with it. I feel like it really reignited my passion for learning, and when I originally took 200, it was really more just for my own benefit, not necessarily to teach, but I just became so enthralled with the content and learning more about yoga and just the way that the Uplifted program allows you to do it from the comfort of your own home. Yoga teacher training was never an option for me with my busy schedule to do it at an actual studio, so it was the perfect fit at the perfect time in my life.
Right after that, I moved right into Yoga for Self-Mastery. That course was also really pivotal to just change my life on how I live my yoga and how I use those yogic skills to make my day-to-day life more manageable. As an A-type person who puts a lot of self-inflicted stress and anxiety on myself, those tools have just changed the way I operate on a daily basis.
And then went right into 300-Hour. Between all of that, I did Business Launchpad and Pregnant and Powerful, just in case I ever wanted to teach any people who were prenatal and do prenatal classes, and then I moved right into Your Business Mastermind, which was just incredible, great small group and lots of coaching from you, and then straight from that into Somatics course. So really have just done everything, soup to nuts, and the Somatics course really helped me learn how to be a coach.
So that one-on-one experience, which is what I’ve always really longed for, I’ve never really had a desire to be a studio teacher, teaching classes five days a week, that’s just not really my cup of tea. And so really getting that framework of how to coach people one-on-one, help them with their own personal discovery, self-improvement, and healing journey is just what I’m really passionate about. So that course was like the icing on the cake of everything that I had done so far.
[Brett Larkin]
Well, I’m so happy to have you here. I always love having you in our programs because you’re always like the person asking the hardest questions, which is something I so appreciate because it really up-levels the content. Everyone, Corinne did an awesome previous podcast here, actually diving into the Yoga for Self Mastery course.
So I will link that in the show notes as well as the gift guide from last year. But this year I said, you know what, it would be so much more fun to do this with someone else. And Corinne’s kind of that go-to person because we’ve become friends over the years who I always am texting when I’m thinking of investing in a new superfood beverage or new clothing because you’re just that person who knows about all the products.
And so that’s what we’re going to do today is we’re going to talk about what we love, what we want to recommend to you. Absolutely nothing we are talking about is an affiliate link or we don’t have time for any of that. No, this is literally just what we love, what we’re using.
And the goal here is to give you a ton of ideas for things that you might want to either ask for for the holiday season or gift other people, things you might want to be circling for as Black Friday approaches. So we’re just going to give you our honest gambit and let you be a fly on the wall in this very light conversation that’s just supposed to be super fun. So we have some categories mapped out.
Where do we want to start? Do we want to start with yoga clothing?
[Corrine Maples]
Yeah, I’d love to start with yoga clothing.
[Brett Larkin]
Okay, let’s start with yoga clothing. What are you loving? And I have updates on all the brands that I am loving.
But let’s start with you.
[Corrine Maples]
Okay, so a couple of things that I’m loving right now that’s a little bit different than where I probably would have been previously. So just to back up a little bit, Vuori and Aloe are probably like my two go-tos. I kind of shifted away.
I’ve shifted away from Lulu a little bit just because I think it’s gotten a little bit too mainstream for my liking. So those are probably like just classic yoga brands. Like if I just know that I want something really good quality, those are the two brands that I lean towards.
But interestingly enough, lately, I’ve just been in like I want like baggy shirts and like joggers and just like more loose fitting clothing. And so I’ve really been enjoying there’s this brand called Junk Food. And they have like these vintage style t-shirts that are just really baggy, but like kind of like cool looking.
And so I’ve been obsessed with these like just like really baggy t-shirts and then either leggings or joggers or just something super comfy. So I feel like I’ve really been in like comfy mode, like just really feeling into just like flowy, bigger clothes. And then also I’ve been loving Free People movement.
Their stuff is so cute. It’s not so much in that flowy category, but I’ve just recently started buying some stuff there and I really like it. It’s very different than a lot of the other stuff that’s on the market.
Like sometimes with Lulu and Dory and Aloe, like some of it’s like same same. And what I like about Free People movement, it’s just like a bit of a different aesthetic.
[Brett Larkin]
Okay, things I have to say here. First of all, I’m excited about the Junk Food recommendation because I’ve never heard of that brand. I also feel like there’s this movement that you go through as a woman where it’s like you’re in Aloe and Lulu and then it’s almost like you graduate to Viore.
Like you just want to be comfortable.
[Corrine Maples]
Yeah.
[Brett Larkin]
So I feel like I’m like living that. And I do want to say about Aloe, I think the pants are worth it. I especially like them to film.
They just look great on camera. There’s really nothing else that looks as good. However, Aloe tops, like for me are a huge thumbs down.
I invested in some. They are pilling. They’re literally like falling apart after one wash.
I’m just like, how is this a thing? Even my great Aloe hoodie, which I love so much, like now after two or three washes, like it’s not soft anymore. So I’m really like Aloe, yes on the pants, not on the tops.
Viore, so comfortable.
[Corrine Maples]
I know. I love their stuff.
[Brett Larkin]
Oh, so comfortable. Sweaty Betty. We forget about Sweaty Betty, I think because it’s based in the UK or whatever, but that is a brand that I would circle for Black Friday.
They have joggers that are some of my most favorite joggers I’ve ever owned. So comfortable. Their tops are fantastic.
I’m wearing one, or I was wearing one earlier and it, you know, has gone through a hundred washes, very high quality. So that’s something I would definitely circle for Black Friday. I also want to let people know Nordstrom Rack.
Nordstrom Rack, friends, Beyond Yoga is now at Nordstrom Rack. And I think Viore is too. Can you confirm or deny this?
[Corrine Maples]
I know Viore is in Nordstrom. So I would assume that they have stuff at Rack too, because now that they’re in Nordstrom, like that later season stuff has got to be in Nordstrom Rack. I haven’t been to Nordstrom Rack in a minute, but I would assume so.
[Brett Larkin]
And this is something that also blew my mind. You can shop Nordstrom Rack online. I don’t know why that like never occurred to me, but my friends, you can.
And if you know your sizes and you know what you’re looking for, like one of my close friends in person, who’s also done Yoga Teacher Training 200 with Uplifted, but she was flipping out because she went to a Nordstrom’s, or maybe it was a Marshall’s or something. And she found Beyond Yoga sportswear. So maybe I’m wrong.
Maybe it was Marshall, but then they were all in her size. So I think sometimes looking at these outlets is a really great idea. Hardtail is a brand that I used to really enjoy.
And I haven’t like looked at their stuff in a while, but I think that would also be something, you know, maybe worth looking at Black Friday, just seeing, because it is different, kind of like what you’re talking about, the three people movement. It’s like Hardtail’s kind of off the beaten track. I still love Lulu.
I still love anything made of the Nulu fabric. That is N-U-L-U, N-U-L-U. That’s the only thing I will put on my body from Lulu.
It’s just like my go-to black leggings. They’re so, so comfortable. Obviously we’re buying everything high-waisted.
Is anyone buying stuff that’s like not high-waisted? Do you know anyone who even purchases those?
[Corrine Maples]
No, no, I don’t think so. The higher the weight, the better.
[Brett Larkin]
Like what did we do before high-waisted existed? Like God bless whoever came up with that. Okay.
Cute jackets are always fun. Cute tops. Let’s talk a little bit just about like sports bras specifically.
I did want to mention this company for those of you who have a smaller bust like I do, this company called Pepper. They specialize in bras for small boobs or whatever. And I really like their athleisure collection.
It’s just the most comfortable bra I’ve ever worn. So I want to shout out Pepper for sports bras. If you’re just looking for something really comfortable, again, I’ll wear it even when I’m not working out.
[Corrine Maples]
What other furbuary for sports bras? I like theirs. I would say I’m medium chested.
So I think that theirs are good for like that size range. And they’re super comfortable. And I also love the way they look.
And they look good underneath stuff as well. I also have to say I do like some of Aloe’s sports bras because they give you a little less of like the uni-boob. So like sometimes sports bras make you look like you have nothing.
And I do feel like Aloe has some styles where they’re more of a V down that doesn’t do as much of that like squishy uni-boob. So it looks a little bit better if you’re wearing it under regular clothes. And then one thing I also thought of when you were talking is my favorite pair of tennis shoes right now are Aloe’s tennis shoes.
They’re the recovery mode ones. And they are super cute. And they are incredibly comfortable.
Like you could walk all day in them. And they look cute. And I’m obsessed with them.
[Brett Larkin]
I think you actually texted me about this. And I was so shocked because it would not occur to me that Aloe sneakers would be something that you’d want. Or that like I just wouldn’t trust them for it.
So this is why it’s so good that we talk because I trust all of your recommendations. So I’m gonna absolutely check those out. Do we need to talk about Athleta?
I don’t know. I feel like I’m just not interested in them.
[Corrine Maples]
I’m not either. I’ve never been an Athleta person. Just not my thing.
I feel like they’re same same and even maybe a little lower quality than some of the others. So I’ve just not ever seen a need to shop there.
[Brett Larkin]
One brand that I wanted to bring up that I actually found out about today, but maybe you and others are more on top of this, is this brand called Kalia. So it’s C-A-L-I-A. And apparently you can get it at Dick’s Sporting Goods.
I just, they have these adorable, like really fun colored, you know, sweatshirts, like crop zips. Like when I saw it, because I saw a friend wearing it, I immediately thought it was Lulu because it looked so high quality, looked beautiful. And then she was like, no, it’s not Lulu.
And I couldn’t believe it. I touched it. It’s buttery soft.
So Kalia, friends, C-A-L-I-A, something worth checking out. That’s definitely getting on my list immediately. And then just before we leave the clothing, I feel like I am constantly in this trap where I’m always wearing black.
I’m always wearing gray. I don’t know what it is about me that’s just attract. Probably it’s like I have young kids.
So I just know these things will hide stains well. But I’m just curious, like any tips, anything we want to talk about with like colors. There’s some very, very pretty, like olive green things on the market.
There was like a bright red kind of orange pullover or fleece that looks like really sporty, really good. But just like anything we can talk about of like how we can just get away from like the boring, like the Navy, the black, the gray. I still just find myself wearing these things constantly.
Any thoughts?
[Corrine Maples]
So I’m loving green right now. Green’s probably my favorite color. Like I’m really leaning into all shades of that like olive to a little bit lighter.
And I’m also loving like this again is still kind of like not super fun, but like that kind, like that off white kind of tan color is really popular right now. And a lot of my, like those baggy shirts that I am talking about from junk food, like though it’s in that kind of like off white, you know, tan color. And I’m really loving that color too for some reason.
I’m also not a super bright color person. Like I see that red and I like it on other people, but I don’t know, I’m just not super big into red. And then the other thing that I will mention, you’ve mentioned sweatshirts and like kind of like that kind of comfy stuff, spiritual gangsters sweatshirts I love.
I’m not a huge fan of their leggings, but I love their crew neck sweatshirts, which I used to be a hoodie girl. Now I’m kind of like in my crew neck phase. And so I love just a good crew neck sweatshirt.
[Brett Larkin]
This is something I’m also gonna say publicly, which I don’t know how I’ll feel about later, but you know, these half zips that we all wear, they’re so cute. Like I’m wearing one now. But the reality is like taking this on and off is annoying.
And I find that I gravitate towards my full zip. Like I can just zip the whole thing down. And so I think as your shopping friends, I think I have this bias to be like, oh, it’s a half zip.
I love that. It’ll look so great. But then in my actual day-to-day life with kids and running around, I actually find I’m really like always leaning towards and pulling the things that are a full zip just because it’s so much easier to get on and off.
Especially with winter, it’s like you’re going from hot to cold. You know, I don’t know. It’s just easier.
So better for our shoulder mobility to like lift things over our head. But if you’re kind of lazy like me, it’s like I kind of need to stop gravitating towards so many half zips and commit to the full zip.
[Corrine Maples]
I’m with you. I prefer a full zip. And I also realized I don’t love the cropped like either half zip or full zip.
They were like having a moment for a while. I invested in two of them from Lulu. They’re super cute, but I hate always feeling like my shirt’s riding up and like I’m just like not here for that anymore.
You know, entering into my 40s, I don’t know that I’m like, you know, thrilled with my midriff showing all the time. So I just feel so much more comfortable when they’re just like a little bit longer and kind of looser fitting these days.
[Brett Larkin]
Yeah, it’s frustrating because they’re so cute. But I agree. Like I don’t want my tummy to be cold.
Okay, let’s shift gears. Talk a little bit about… Well, okay.
One more thing. One more thing. This is actually a great segue before we go into yoga props and equipment.
Do we want to say anything about socks? Like little Pilates socks, socks with grippers. I don’t have anything especially illuminating to say about this, but I just want to check with you before we move fully into equipment.
[Corrine Maples]
Yeah, I mean, the only thing I’ll say about socks is I do love… So I have a 17 year old daughter. So she always is keeping me up with like what the young people trends are, which is nice.
And young people have gotten away from ankle socks. Like ankle socks are not in. It’s like the half calf socks.
And so I’ve actually had a lot of fun getting them with like patterns and sayings on them. Spiritual Gangster has some that just have like angel numbers on them. They’re like gray and green.
[Brett Larkin]
The half calf socks or with leggings?
[Corrine Maples]
Yeah, with or without. Or like when I wear jeans now, if they’re not skinny jeans, I’ll wear the half calf socks. And with leggings, like all the young people, that’s how they do it now.
Like they do not really wear ankle socks. So I’ve had a lot of fun because with the longer sock, there’s like floral patterns. And like I have socks that like have books all over them.
And so it’s just like a little bit of fun, especially when you’re wearing jeans because you’re really the only one that knows it’s there. And then you, you know, lift your leg up or move and you get to see your little fun sock designs. That’s probably the only thing I have on socks.
[Brett Larkin]
See, I like that with jeans. I feel like with leggings, this would stress me out so much because I’d be like, do my socks match my sneakers, match my top, match my leg. Anyway, I have always thought ankle socks are the bomb, which clearly I’m old.
I’m so old. Okay. Yoga props and equipment.
I always love to shout out every year on like every gift guide I’ve ever done or any yoga product talk, this strap by OPTP. I’m holding it up. If you happen to be accessing the video, if you don’t, it’s just called the stretch out strap.
It’s essentially a yoga strap, but it has all these different rings on it. So imagine a yoga strap that has different rings and circles, and it just makes it easier to hook your foot, to grab it in different ways. This is probably the most popular product in my house.
My children are attracted to it. I’m not sure why they like to build things with it. My husband loves it and it’s really hard to get him to stretch.
This is his favorite. I like to have it. I just keep buying them because everybody loves them.
So this is great. I believe you can get it on Amazon. My other number one prop, this is such a great gift, gift it to yourself, ask for it, would be the cranio cradle.
I’m also holding this one up, but it’s essentially basically a little foam. It’s supposed to mimic a massage therapist’s hands underneath your occiput, giving you craniosacral massage. And you can use it flat.
You can use it on a higher setting to really traction your neck, traction the back of your neck. And that in turn is also, those of you who have taken 200, you know the lumbar and cervical curve are sympathetic friends. So you were also stretching your low back at the same time.
So if you haven’t looked up the cranio cradle, also now available on Amazon, that is a great one. Yoga jellies, super, super fun. I love these to pad my knees.
These are great. If someone has arthritis, you can kind of prop up your wrists on these great little yoga jelly discs. You can also use them to pad your knees, as I mentioned for like camel.
Getting someone a bolster is always lovely. Getting someone a cushion is always lovely. I’m specifying with cushions now.
I like the softer cushions. I don’t want like a hard overstuffed cushion. I want a softer cushion with some give that can kind of meld to my pelvis a little bit.
I’m finding that’s especially important with some of the more like feminine style movements I’m doing. I really want the cushion to kind of move with me. So that is something to look out for.
Obviously, we can talk about yoga mats. I know yoga rugs were like a thing that came in recently. I’ve wanted to hop on that trend.
I just own too many yoga mats already, but I really like the idea because it’s like, why do we have these plastic yoga mats when you could just practice on a rug and it’s like micro microbial? That’s not a real word. But anyway, like their marketing, I was like, I’m sold.
Like I totally am sold on the rug thing. And then of course we have the acupressure mats. I feel like those are really 20 years ago, but I know people still love them.
Talk to me.
[Corrine Maples]
Okay. So I have a great meditation cushion that I’ve been loving. It’s from Life Harmony Energies and it is called their Harmony Cushion.
And it’s also supposed to be enhanced with things that help dispel energy and it’s got the little beads in it. So it kind of forms to you. It’s not super soft, but it’s moldable.
Like when you get up, your butt prints on there, right? So that’s what I know it’s molding to you. It is a little bit more expensive, but it kind of looks cool too.
And I’ve just been really loving it. So that’s probably in the bougie category of things, but I do a lot of meditation. It’s the Harmony Meditation Cushion from Life Harmony Energies.
So they have like EMF bracelets and jewelry that’s supposed to help with EMF waves and stuff like that. And then they have this meditation cushion that I happened to find. And I’m loving that.
I am on the yoga rug trend. So I do have one of the yoga rugs. I absolutely love it.
It definitely makes you engage your core a whole lot more because it does not have that same sticky traction that a yoga mat does. So there’s definitely a bit of an adjustment, but it forces you to really engage your muscles. So if you’re someone who’s like, I’m really flexible.
So I always struggle on the strength side of things. I have to really remember to activate like my muscles to my bones. Otherwise I’ll just kind of fall into the flexibility side of things.
And so I really feel like it’s helped me create that stability. So I’m loving my yoga rug. And then I have another neck thing.
It was created by a chiropractor. It’s similar to yours, but it’s meant to just help so you don’t get like a cell phone hump or whatever that’s called where you like start hunching your shoulders over. And so you just lay on it for like 10 minutes and you put it behind your neck.
I also, it was invented by a chiropractor. And if you kind of like move your neck around on it, you can feel like sometimes you can get your neck to pop like you can when you’re at the chiro. So I absolutely love that.
I probably use that three or four times a week. It’s called the Hexo Neck Cervical Traction Pillow.
[Brett Larkin]
Okay. I’m definitely asking for that.
[Corrine Maples]
Love it. It’s amazing. I absolutely love it.
And then kind of in the yoga props or adjacent to this, as women, we’re always told to add in weights, especially as we get older. And one of your previous ITT graduates, Morgan Tyler has classes that are called like these bite size workouts and they’re dumbbell weight workouts that are like 15 to 20 minutes long. And they get in that like strength training.
And I’ve been loving being able to add that in three to four times a week, just to get that, you know, a little bit, like I could just do yoga every day and be really happy with myself, but I know I need to add in the weights. And so it’s been a really great palatable way. And I would also say super budget friendly.
I think it’s like $99 for the year of access to all the videos. And I’m really, really loving adding that in as well.
[Brett Larkin]
And so did you have to buy little special dumbbells to be able to do it?
[Corrine Maples]
Yeah, I have dumbbells from size, from five pounds to 20 pounds. So 20 pounds is kind of like where I’ve gotten to over, I think I’ve probably been doing it now for like three months. And I just bought my dumbbells like on Amazon.
The dumbbells are nothing special. They’re just, you know, whatever you have, or like I started with just the five and 10, then out of the 15, then out of the 20, just as I had been doing it more.
[Brett Larkin]
And friends, this is at finding Morgan Tyler on Instagram. I’ll also put it on the show notes. I love that we’re shouting her out.
She is a 300 hour uplifted alum who is just crushing it over 300,000 followers. And yes, I love her little bite-sized workout. She makes it really fun.
So I think some dumbbells, cause a lot of us are realizing, yeah, we need more strength training. So that’s an absolutely fantastic idea. Acupressure mats, we kind of agree those are over.
Oh, you know, a cervical pillow. So I actually started using these so much. The cervical pillow, mine is from Chatra.
Yeah, Chatra, hopefully I’m saying that right, which is a company my friend used to own. And I believe they’re on Amazon and pretty widely available now. But it’s basically just like a teeny tiny pillow that goes under your neck.
That’s a circle. And you wouldn’t think this is so life-changing, but it really, really is. Like now, if I’m doing Shavasana without this, it’s just not okay.
I need it. Oh, actually, I also put them one behind my low back. Look, I have one right here.
I literally pulled it out. So this is a cervical pillow. If you happen to have the video, if not in your driving, no problem.
You’ll just Google cervical pillow and you will find it. But really, really nice. It just, it really adds something.
So if you have the bolster under the knees or the feet as wide as the mat, knees into touch. And then I love having the cervical pillow and then just taking my pelvis in a little bit of a posterior pelvic tilt, whether that’s like having it a little bit on a blanket and then the cervical pillow. It is so, so magic.
Okay, is there anything else we want to say about props? Obviously, if you’re listening to this podcast, you already own yoga blocks, I’m sure. We don’t need to talk about that.
I love foam blocks. I’ve talked about that before. Not a fan of wood.
Cork is okay. But the foam ones are just so light, easy to move around. I’m all about the portability and the ease and they’re cheap.
So you can get a lot of them.
[Corrine Maples]
Yeah, I love, I mean, while I’m sure everyone has them, I also just want to say like, I used to never use blocks and now I’m obsessed with using them. So don’t let them collect dust in your yoga room. Make sure that you’re actually using them because I just love, love blocks.
[Brett Larkin]
And is there anything we need to say about travel friendly props? I feel like when I travel, I just, I can do so much yoga at this point without even needing a mat saying, I don’t even worry about this.
[Corrine Maples]
I don’t bring anything with me when I travel. I do love when I’m somewhere out of town, just catching a class at a local studio and renting a mat and just seeing what the vibe of that particular studio is. But honestly, most of the time I’m doing the shorter uplifted Kundalini classes from my hotel bed.
To be honest with you, I do them. I use a pillow instead of a bolster. And you know, hotels normally have 900 pillows and some of them you’re not even sleeping on.
So I’ll even put those on the floor. And if for some reason, like I’m a little weird about hotel carpet, if they have carpet. So I’ll just get a towel from the bathroom and use that.
If I don’t want to put like my, I’m weird about putting my face on hotel room carpet. So I’ll just put a towel down. Like if I’m going to go into child’s pose or something like that.
Um, but yeah, I’m like you.
[Brett Larkin]
Yeah. Traveling. I’m bringing a strap.
I always bring a strap. Cause that’s like easy to do in the hotel bed. And then I’m bringing my weighted eye pillow.
That’s really it. I’m not traveling with a yoga mat anymore. Okay.
So we are moving on. Things are really heating up and getting exciting in this conversation because we’re now going to talk about like my favorite topic, which is beverages like coffee alternatives, superfood supplements. This is a place where your knowledge has helped me immensely.
Let’s start actually by talking about the thing you told me about recently, which are these bars. So friends, these are stars and honey protein bars. Now I obviously I’m trying not to eat granola bars and bars.
Cause we all know they’re loaded with sugar and they’re terrible for you. But if you have to, and sometimes it’s like, I have to, because I have not been able to feed myself or I’m driving my kids somewhere or rushing to teach or whatever the situation may be. You told me about this brand, which is not available on Amazon.
I believe you have to order it direct from them. Yeah. With your like, Oh, it’s a pain.
Is it worth it? It is worth it. These bars taste delicious.
Tell us a little bit more about this stars and honey.
[Corrine Maples]
Yeah. So I had found those because so many protein bars just taste crappy or like you said, they taste good, but then they have a ton of sugar in it. So I’m busy.
And I think I’ve said this a lot as women age. The other thing we’re told all the frigging time is you need more protein. Right.
And I’m like, I don’t know how to get more protein in. So this is a great way to do that. I think they have 15 grams of protein.
And how many grams of sugar brat? Like two, two, two. So super high protein, super low sugar, and they taste delicious.
The dark chocolate coconuts. One of my favorite, the one that Brett has right there, I think is the cherry chocolate.
[Brett Larkin]
I texted you before I was like, what flavor should I get? And I was going to actually text you again, cause I need to reorder. But then I knew I was talking to you on this podcast.
So cherry chocolate waffle cone guys, you want this flavor.
[Corrine Maples]
You want to say the one that you just, my favorite is the dark chocolate coconut, and then I think it’s expresso vanilla cinnamon latte or something like that.
[Brett Larkin]
Yes. I got that one as well. I like the cherry chocolate or the start.
Yeah. The cherry chocolate waffle cone. I like better than that one, but it’s pretty, it’s pretty darn good for a bar.
[Corrine Maples]
And then there’s like a peanut butter blackberry one. That’s really good.
[Brett Larkin]
Okay. So I’m going to order those two next peanut butter, blackberry, and dark chocolate coconuts. And my kids like them too.
They, I don’t, I’m not like letting my kids eat them that much cause they’re expensive.
[Corrine Maples]
Yeah.
[Brett Larkin]
I’m like, have some apple slices. So they call it like the grownup bar, but I think I’m seeing how good they are and how good they are for you. I think I’m going to start actually just getting more and getting them for my kids too, now that I did like the initial test investment.
Okay. Let’s talk a little bit about coffee alternatives. So you got me addicted to Pike, which I’ve talked about on this podcast before this coffee alternative tastes like mud, disgusting.
The first time you try it, then you just have to keep drinking it. And then like four times later, you’re like addicted and cannot live without this.
[Corrine Maples]
Yeah.
[Brett Larkin]
It’s a very weird experience.
[Corrine Maples]
I love that. I know you’re not a huge fan of their sun goddess matcha, but their matcha is also my go-to matcha. Like I’m obsessed with it.
And right now, I don’t know where in the country this is all, but Malk, which is like a almond milk brand, M-A-L-K, they have their pumpkin spice Malk, almond milk out right now and mixing the pumpkin spice with your matcha pumpkin spice, almond milk with your matcha is so good. And it’s low, it’s another like low sugar. Like, I think it’s like four grams of sugar or something like that.
And it doesn’t have any of like the bad stuff in it. It’s just a couple of ingredients and I’m loving that right now. It’s so good.
[Brett Larkin]
Oh, that is a great tip. Yes. I tried the matcha and I did like it, but I should try it again.
But yeah, just their adaptogenic coffee alternative. I love it so much. The other thing I wanted to ask, okay.
Mud water. Cause that’s another, like, if you don’t want, if you want a different coffee alternative, I know people like mud water. Have you tried it?
[Corrine Maples]
I haven’t. Um, I’ve seen a lot of like the ads for it and I know it’s super popular. And I also think there’s like Cachava has one too, but I just loved the one that you were just holding up so much that I haven’t really ventured outside of it because I’m like, it’s just so good.
It’s so good.
[Brett Larkin]
But disgusting when you first try it.
[Corrine Maples]
Yeah. Yeah.
[Brett Larkin]
Um, okay. Rasa adaptogenic blends. Is this something we need to talk about?
I’ve heard of that. Okay. I have also, well, okay.
We know about Four Sigmatic. I’m really only using them for reishi hot chocolate in the evening. So like in the evening, if I have a chocolate craving, I’ll just do their reishi hot cocoa instead of something more chocolatey or sugary.
Um, I’ve got, I don’t drink coffee, so you could check out their mushroom coffees, but I, I don’t know. I’m like, if you’re just going to have coffee, just don’t have coffee and have like an adaptogenic alternative. Do you have any thoughts on aminos protein creatine?
Uh, I was just hearing from a friend that she starts her day with these perfect amino, a perfect amino creatine from body health, and she takes two pills in the morning and it kind of helps her fast in the morning before having a bigger breakfast and Dr. Mark Hyman is on this website and a lot of other attractive influencers who are potentially maybe trustworthy. I’m not sure, but any thoughts on this?
[Corrine Maples]
Yeah. So I have a couple of things there. So I actually use this one.
It’s a raised tone creatine and there are these little creatine gummies. So I’m not a big fan of creatine powder. I find it really hard.
And especially for women, creatine powder can really upset your stomach, but these are creatine and ginger and the ginger helps like if sometimes creatine upsets your stomach, I am obsessed with these. So creatine is something that they say us women should be having. And I really, really love these.
And I’ve noticed in my weight training that I’ve been doing, like I said, I never really have done a lot of weights and I moved from five pounds to 20 pounds in a really quick time. And I really feel like I am building muscle. Like I joke and I’m like, I make my husband and my kids.
I’m like, feel my guns. Like I actually have guns now because of my weight workout, but I really feel like this helps. It also is supposed to help with more energy.
Um, and I am loving, loving, loving these.
[Brett Larkin]
When do you take it?
[Corrine Maples]
In the morning. I do my AG1. So I do, I want to talk about AG1.
[Brett Larkin]
So we’re going to circle back.
[Corrine Maples]
Okay. I do my AG1 mixed with my other thing that I’m going to talk about, which is super core, which is a non, um, cow version of colostrum. So it doesn’t have any dairy in it.
I’m sensitive to dairy. And so while I love the idea of colostrum, this is a new one that came out from Chroma, which you know, is one of my brands that I love and it is mimics all the benefits of colostrum, but we’re not having to steal all that precious colostrum from all the mama cows out there. So if you’re dairy sensitive or the idea of stealing that very important, um, you know, nutrient packed and anti-oxidant packed stuff from baby cows makes you feel a little bad.
Um, this one’s good. So anyways, going back to that, I take my AG1 mixed with this, I do my workout and then I take my creatine. So creatine, they say either take it right before you work out if you’re doing a workout or right after.
So I just, my morning routine is my AG1, my workout or yoga or meditation, whatever I’m doing that day. And then my, um, creatine gummies and then my caffeinated beverage, whatever that is for the day.
[Brett Larkin]
Okay. And that’s all on an empty stomach.
[Corrine Maples]
Yeah.
[Brett Larkin]
I am definitely going to get these tone creatine gummies because I like anything I can have in gummy form. I don’t like swallowing pills. I mean, I do obviously do it, but I don’t enjoy it.
So anything I can like gummify is a huge win. G1, let’s touch on that briefly before going back to chroma. AG1, do you think it’s worth, I feel like they started small and now it’s like, I watch ads for them like when I was at Wimbledon or whatever.
I was like, what is happening? So that concerns me. I’m like, is it still good?
Is it corporate now? Like what, what has been your experience?
[Corrine Maples]
I love it. They just updated their formula from like the original formula to make it even better. I tend to overbuy supplements, shocker, because I just love like, what’s the next new thing?
What I love about AG1 is I don’t worry about my probiotics. I don’t worry about vitamin D. I don’t worry about all those other things because they’re all in there.
Your adaptogens are in there. Like all the things that you would have, like, especially for you, since you don’t like to swallow pills, it takes like the 10 things that you would need to have separate supplements for and puts it all in one. And I have noticed a big difference.
I’ve probably been taking it for seven or eight months and again, more energy in the morning. I just like the way it makes me feel. So I I’m definitely a pro for it.
Like I, or would say like, yes for it. And I would just say, consider how much you spend. It is expensive, but consider how much you spend on each of those individual things that you would be buying separately that are the important supplements for you to be taking.
And for me, it was about neutral in the things that I was able to say, okay, I don’t need to take these anymore. And now I can just take this one thing.
[Brett Larkin]
So, and how does it taste?
[Corrine Maples]
It’s not great. My husband hates it. I make him take it each morning too.
He’s like, this is so disgusting. If you’re the kind of person who can drink a green juice that doesn’t have a lot of sweetener, or if you can drink the alternative coffee, you can drink this. Like now it’s not going to taste like a smoothie.
It’s not going to taste like juice. Like it tastes healthy and a little vitamin-y, but I’m pretty good at, if I know something’s good for me, I can drink it without it being a problem. Some people, if you’re sensitive to that and like any bad taste makes you gag, move away from AG1.
I’ve heard good things about greens, which is like G-R-U-E-N-S. And it’s supposed to be just like AG1, but they’re gummies. So Brett, that might be up your alley.
[Brett Larkin]
I’m very good at drinking disgusting things, but I’m all about the speed. So if I can gummify it and get it in faster, that would be good. But that, you know, that makes me trust AG1 because it’s like, if it tastes like sugary and delicious, like guess what?
They’ve added stuff to it. So I think it’s like legitimizing that they don’t have it taste fantastic. Let’s go to Chroma.
So we were shopping there. What were we shopping there for when we were both shopping there?
[Corrine Maples]
Their matcha and their bone broth are excellent and they have an adaptogenic chai that’s pretty good too. But I think I got you onto their beauty matcha, which has like collagen and like some of the warming herbs in it. And so it takes your matcha and just elevates it into a latte without you having to add anything else to it, which I love.
[Brett Larkin]
Right.
[Corrine Maples]
But this Supercore, so I am obsessed with this. They did a ton of research, like because I follow them, I get like, Hey, we have this new product coming out and learn all about it, but it says that it’s the first of its kind non-dairy colostrum designed to unlock the regenerative power of nature’s most potent superfood without dairy. So while most colostrums rely on bovine sources, Supercore’s breakthrough formula delivers gut healing, immune boosting, and longevity enhancing benefits without side effects.
And it says it’s crafted for optimal absorption and bioavailability. So I’m obsessed. I’ve noticed my hair’s thicker.
My nails are longer. My skin has been like kind of like glowy lately. And I really think a lot of it is this Supercore.
Um, and it has like a very mild taste. Like if you drank this by itself, it would just almost taste like nothing. I think like there’s maybe a little bit of vanilla.
Oh yeah. Natural vanilla flavor. Like when you smell it, it smells like a really mild vanilla protein powder, but I just mix it with my AG1 and the AG1, you can’t taste it at all when it’s with AG.
These two things are probably like the things I was almost most excited. I have a couple more up my sleeve, but those were two of the things I was most excited to tell you about.
[Brett Larkin]
Supercore. Okay. Supercore everyone.
If you’re driving Supercore and then the Tone Gummies.
[Corrine Maples]
Yeah.
[Brett Larkin]
So that is your colostrum and your creatine. And then Chroma, which with a K that we were talking about before they have some beauty wellness matcha. And then I was thinking about returning to them to get their bone broth.
That’s like a powdered bone broth.
[Corrine Maples]
It’s amazing.
[Brett Larkin]
It’s worth it. Okay. Because I drink so much tea and I’m like, really?
I just need like protein and maybe that’s a great way to do it. They also have a vegan bone broth, I believe. So I think I will circle back to Chroma with a K for some of the bone broth.
Tell us, because we’re running out of time, what else you have up your sleeve, especially if it’s in the supplement or superfood category?
[Corrine Maples]
Um, the only other thing I want to mention in supplement or superfood is Array, which is the same ones who do Tone. They do have two other products that I really like. They have one that’s called Clear Protein.
So again, for my people who struggle to get enough protein in, it is a clear protein powder. And I think it’s like raspberry yuzu flavored. And so it gives you, I think it’s 20, 15 or 20 grams of protein.
You mix it with water and it almost just tastes like a Gatorade. Again, it’s low sugar, but if you’re struggling to get in the protein between the protein bars, the stars and honey one that we were talking about and that clear protein powder, it really helps me, especially on days where I’m really busy. I take both of those things whenever I’m traveling, because whenever I’m traveling, I feel like I don’t get enough protein.
And so I highly recommend that. And then the last thing with Array is they have bloat capsules. So when you overeat at a meal, maybe you have too much bread or pasta, you overindulge on the cookies, especially now that we’re sending this episode out around the holidays, I highly recommend getting their bloat supplements.
It makes a huge difference when I’ve overindulged, I take those and it really helps my stomach to not feel bad. And it works even better if you take them and then go on like a short walk, just to kind of even help stimulate your digestion. But for those times where maybe we’re not going to skip the cake or we’re going to overindulge, I highly recommend those.
[Brett Larkin]
Okay. So these are all available at Array. A R R A Y.
Correct?
[Corrine Maples]
A E.
[Brett Larkin]
A E.
[Corrine Maples]
Okay.
[Brett Larkin]
So spell it.
[Corrine Maples]
A R R A E.
[Brett Larkin]
Okay. Got it. Amazing.
So, so many amazing supplements, so many amazing super foods. I think let’s maybe just finish up with like some quick ideas for gifts for yourself or others. Going kind of more into the self-care and wellness gadgets.
If you don’t own a foam roller, fix that immediately. Ask for one, give one to someone. Also, you can get like a half foam roller.
Like you don’t need to get the whole long one. You can get a half one. That’s like half the size.
And you can also get one that’s like split in half. So it’s like flat on the bottom and someone can just track to their low back off of it. So if you’re like trying to bring a gift to someone’s house, like that could be a great option because it’s just smaller massage guns.
Hopefully everyone has a massage gun at this point, but if you don’t, I would highly recommend it. And I would actually say I would recommend getting a hard wired one. This is the one I have by Wahl.
Now some massage garden company like shipped me a bunch of massage guns, which was really nice of them a couple of years ago and all the ones that were not wired eventually ended up breaking. So same. Okay.
So guys just get one that you can plug into a wall. I mean, the extension cord is pretty like it’s long. If this is not, it has not limited me in any way, shape or form.
Usually I’m doing it like while I’m watching TV or it’s just not a big deal. And these are great. I love being in like a figure four and doing it on my hips.
I love doing it on my quads. If you ski like me, like this is essential. You need a massage gun and just the wired ones are cheaper.
So just don’t splurge for like the fancy cordless because it’s not worth it.
[Corrine Maples]
I agree a hundred percent. I had a sharper image one and it was super expensive and it just literally stopped working one day. So I’m, I’m with you.
[Brett Larkin]
Yup. Red light therapy panels. I’m not into any of that, but I don’t know.
Is there anything we need to mention or I have one and I love it.
[Corrine Maples]
I don’t remember the brand right now, but it’s one of the small panel ones. Mine has a red light and near infrared light. The near infrared setting is great when you have sore muscles.
So like I’ll put that little block like right on my low back, especially again, if I’ve been traveling or doing a lot of walking or like I start to just get kind of sore in my low back. So I love the ones that have the both red light for like beauty and wrinkles and surface stuff. But if you also have the one that has the near infrared, that’s supposed to be good at getting into like tissues, sore muscles, and just helping with that kind of stuff.
So I do recommend it for, for that. And I’ve actually really enjoyed it.
[Brett Larkin]
Okay. That is a great tip for those of you that want to splurge on an alarm clock, the hatch alarm clock. It’s like a sunrise simulator, minimalist alarm clock that somehow connects to your food somehow connects to your phone.
And so you don’t have to have your phone in your room. It’s extremely overpriced, but maybe you want it as a gift. I do not personally own it, but it’s something I would like to own because I already have kind of a different sunrise simulator, but I did want to shout out the hatch alarm clock as well as weighted blankets, as well as magnesium.
This is the magnesium supplement. Since we’re just talking about sleep. That was recommended to me, magnesium glycinate complex.
I don’t know. I just take it with melatonin and I find that it helps. I wanted to ask you about the aura ring or just any like gadgets that you might be using, anything you have to say.
I’m not, I’m not on this.
[Corrine Maples]
I’m not a ring or a watch. Like I don’t use an Apple watch. Like I, I’m like not into like wearing, I’m trying to get more away from technology and phones.
So for me, that’s just like another connector to tech. I know some people love it and have like rave about it. It’s just not, I’m trying to get less technology.
Cause I feel like, um, that’s more the direction that I’m going right now instead of more. I will say the one thing you talked about a splurge with the hat clock. One splurge that I would recommend is nude.
N O O D has a device that is laser hair removal and IPL. So IPL helps get rid of dark spots on your skin, your face, your neck, your chest, even like your arms and your hands. I think the device is like $400.
So it’s a little bit more expensive. But I no longer have to shave my armpits after eight weeks of using it. I tried laser hair removal years ago when it was very first popular and everyone had group bonds for them and it did not work so well.
And so this has been wonderful bikini line and armpits. I highly recommend. And then it really like, if you get dark spots or freckling in the sun, it helps to lift that out.
You use it. And then it brings that melanin to the surface and then it just sloughs off. And it is amazing.
So between that and the colostrum, I think it’s really helped just like the brightness and texture of my skin as well.
[Brett Larkin]
Okay. That is a great recommendation. Cause that’s the kind of thing that you see and you’re like, should I get this?
And you really need like to know someone who tells you that like, yes, you want to spend $400 on this. Okay. So that is great.
If you’re looking like guys, just some stocking stuff for ideas. Dry brushes are fantastic. Palo Santo, sage bundles, incense, crystal water bottles.
Those are really cute. Of course, I want to mention and shout out the uplifted journals, the uplifted chakra journal, the uplifted abundance journal, my book, yoga life, my next book, which is going to be on somatic yoga may or may not be available, but I think it might be. So stay tuned on that.
And last but not least, cause I literally brought this out to talk about electrolytes. We need to talk about electrolytes.
[Corrine Maples]
Yeah. So, yes. And I have one more thing too, before we go.
So as a stocking stuffer, but let’s, let’s do electrolytes.
[Brett Larkin]
Okay. Electrolytes. One more stocking stuffer guys.
Corinne introduced me to this. So good. So we are all using, we were all using what’s the one that all the influence elements, elements, elements.
It’s great, but it’s very expensive. This is also expensive, but this is the Santa Cruz paleo honeydew melon electrolytes. So good guys.
[Corrine Maples]
It is, they are insane. Like if you want electrolytes that, that make you feel like you’re drinking something that definitely has sugar in it when it does not, these are really good. So elements good, but the flavors are kind of basic and salt is the predominant flavor.
I feel like you taste an element, Santa Cruz, paleo, same amount of sodium, same amount of magnesium, same amount of potassium, but it tastes so good. And that honeydew melon is the best flavor. They have a ton of them, dragon fruit, peach, all sorts of them.
But the honeydew melon is amazing.
[Brett Larkin]
I also want to say like anytime I feel like I’m about to get a headache or have a headache and I just drink these it’s gone. Like it really, it helps so much. So, and then I did try, I’m trying, you know, there’s like a cheaper electrolyte that you can get on Amazon.
I can’t even remember what it’s called. Rehydrate. I don’t know.
But I feel like I’m just like going to make peace with like spending the money on it because it’s, it’s just worth it.
[Corrine Maples]
Okay. I have been refuses to spend money on them. And so he uses liquid IV, which is a cheaper one.
But if you don’t get the sugar free, it has a lot of sugar. He likes that one. I don’t think it works as well, but if you did want a cheap alternative, check out liquid IV, just make sure you get the sugar free.
Cause the non-sugar free one has a lot of added sugar. Um, so this is a stocking stuffer idea that I have. It’s S E A L D and it’s face tape that you sleep with that helps with wrinkles.
So if you don’t want to do Botox or you want your Botox to last longer, this face tape is amazing. So a lot of people have heard of frownies. So frownies are those face patches that you put on your forehead.
That’s supposed to help with wrinkles. I don’t love frownies because you cannot have any of your serums, lotions, anything. Your skin needs to be dry or else they will not stick.
They’ll just fall off sealed. They’re genius. They came up with these face tapes.
I put one right here on my forehead at night. And then there’s these little ones like this that I put right here on the corners of my eyes to prevent wrinkles. And you, they actually encourage you to put it on right after you put all your serums and lotions on.
So it’s a double benefit. It helps not when you’re sleeping instead of your face being like this, right? Like it’s keeping it all smooth, but it’s also holding all those serums that you’ve put on your face where they belong and locking them in so they absorb better.
I look like a weirdo every night because I have this and I have them right here. And I have my blue blockers on and sometimes my mouth guard and sometimes mouth tape. So I look like a weirdo, but it’s what we do to make sure that we’re creating longevity and youth.
And I’ve actually gotten away from even wanting to do any kind of Botox or fillers or anything like that. Like I’ve just kind of shifted in my perspective on it. And so I’m really loving this sealed tape to help.
And there are some other brands, but this is the one that I like the best. And I would say for me, frownies are a thumbs down. They’re probably the most popular brand of forehead tape, but I want to have lotion and serums and stuff like that that I’m putting on my skin at night.
And so to just skip that step doesn’t work for me.
[Brett Larkin]
These I need because I sleep on my side and I wake up and I have like my pillow wrinkles across my cheek and I’m like, hopefully that’ll fade before my first call or like by the time I get to the school or whatever. And so this is genius. And I love, for those of you who didn’t see her hold it up, like it literally would be the perfect stocking stuffer.
Cause it’s just like this little, little thing that you can pop in. We could talk forever, but we are going to have to cut it short. So friends, let us know if you liked this episode, if you would like us to do another, just kind of silly, fun episode like this, we did not even talk about skincare because I have so much I need to tell you about my new Korean skincare routine.
I’m only buying skincare from Korea heads up everyone. And I think that could even be its own episode because I was thinking of interviewing my Korean friend about this because there is just so much that is absolutely fascinating. And also never use American sunscreen again, because once you start using Korean sunscreen, it is just, it is so incredible, but we hope that you have some ideas that this episode was fun, that you feel like there’s stuff you can splurge on or gift for others, as well as some, you know, maybe more affordable alternatives.
Corinne, I want to thank you for being my partner in crime for this episode. And again, we will listen to your feedback. So absolutely DM me at Larkin yoga TV on Instagram.
If you want more episodes like this and check out the show notes, because I always link up lots of valuable resources there, including last year’s gift guide, Corinne’s other episode, and then we’ll list out what products we can. I know we covered a lot, but we’ll hook you up in the show notes best we can. And thank you so much for listening all the way to the very end.
[Corrine Maples]
Yes. Thank you so much. Y’all have a good one.
